I find it interesting how the audio says that modern architecture was under attack, and how we should go back to older styles of building, it shows that sometimes people try and adapt architecture too much and it is not always successful, however it is also important to try new methods and find possible answers to flaws in previous styles. Stainless steel was a popular material choice for the Lloyds company which structurally seems to support the building well. I also find it interesting how the materials used to construct the building are purposefully on show to allow people to see how it is built, although it may not appeal to others and could be seen as unflattering. I got the impression that Briton solves solutions as they go along rather than considering the full approach before hand, especially after post-war. The eggcup by Farrell idea was very bold but made an enjoyable statement, which I think was a positive impact on modern architecture, although it was quite clear Foster and Rogers were completely against the idea and put them off of post modernism. Reinventing the skyscraper was clear it took a lot of thought, model making and designing, it is also carefully planned out considering possible things that could go wrong, this is a good movement for architecture. It also seems like it was a big obstacle with Prince Charles objecting to a lot of modernism ideas, which must have been frustrating for the architects. Farrell also did well working on large-scale buildings on a budget, perhaps a better approach and ideas to hid previous work. Overall I did find this reading interesting to find out about the different approaches to how the Modern World evolved and what materials were used and the contrast between different architects ideas.
