This article if based on the two architects Carlo Lodoli and Peter Zumthor. They both have two different approaches; Zumthor concentrates on concrete and the qualities of concrete architecture and Zumthor approaches and focuses on elements. I found this reading quite hard to follow at the beginning but it became slightly easier to follow further on. I think concrete is an important material in the architecture world, it creates such simplicity but structurally it is a really durable material to use and can be used on many different building types. The quote ‘wood appears as wood’ appears in the building and it suggests that the materials used must indicate their function by the form and the forms are suitable to their nature which I found quite interesting. However I still think materials should be used to suit the purpose e.g. using concrete for floors, walls, and stairs e.c.t. Which Zumthor achieves in his architecture, with really nice finishing of materials to his buildings.
